Meaning & history

Topaz has traditionally been associated with warmth and strength. Citrine's name comes from the French citron, for lemon, after its color.

Folklore and symbolism are shared here as tradition, not as fact or as health claims.

Care tips

Topaz is hard but has perfect cleavage, so it can split from a sharp blow; avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners and clean with warm, soapy water. Citrine can be cleaned with warm, soapy water; long exposure to heat may change its color.

Design ideas

  • A golden topaz cocktail ring
  • A citrine pendant for a November birthday
  • A topaz and diamond anniversary band
